Part 1: How to set up the AWS WorkDocs in 10 to 15 min. (Document management system (DMS))
Hi folks,
The main agenda of this blog is to make the reader familiar with AWS WorkDocs Service in a very simple manner. This tutorial will be in few parts:
Part 1. Step by step tutorial for Setup the WorkDocks in your AWS account, and upload few files in your WorkDocs.
Part 3: Step by step tutorial for mobile and web setup, security, compliance and pricing.
What is Amazon WorkDocs?
Amazon WorkDocs is a fully managed, secure enterprise storage and sharing service with strong administrative controls and feedback capabilities that improve user productivity. Users can comment on files, send them to others for feedback, and upload new versions without having to resort to emailing multiple versions of their files as attachments. Users can take advantage of these capabilities wherever they are, using the device of their choice, including PCs, Macs, and tablets. Amazon WorkDocs offers IT administrators the option of integrating with existing corporate directories, flexible sharing policies and control of the location where data is stored.
Let’s start now !!!
Part 1. Step by step tutorial for Setup the WorkDocks in your AWS account and upload a few files in your WorkDocs.
Step 1: Log in to your AWS console, click on Services & search for WorkDocs.
Step 2: Click on Get Started Now.
Now you have two options
a. Quick Start: Quickly provision a WorkDocs site for an individual or small group of users in less than 10 minutes.
b. Standard Setup: Provision a WorkDocs site using more options — including using your own on-premises directory or existing Amazon VPC.
Let’s Go one by one, and start with Quick Start
Step 3: Click on the launch button. Then you can see the below screen.
Fill your details as per your requirement, and click complete setup.
Step 4:
It will start initializing your WorkDocs site URL.
In the background, it will create a Directory in Directory Service.
Click below link to visit the directory services: https://console.aws.amazon.com/directoryservicev2/home?region=us-east-1#!/directories
Click on Directory ID. (d-90677a8099) to get more info about Directory.
Now, wait for 3 to 5 min. Your WorkDocks site will be available and status will be in green color ACTIVE.
Also, your Directory will be active as shown in the below picture.
Step 5: Click on your Site URL
https://varunmanik.awsapps.com/workdocs
It will redirect to you new page mention below
If you are trying to login with your given email id, it will redirect into another page as mentioned below:
Now you don't have a password for your user name, because you never set any password anywhere till this step.
There is a Situation ….!!!!
Now Every problem has a Solution…..
Here we have already registered our email id. So AWS sent a confirmation email to our registered email address.
Step 6: Open your inbox and click on the Get started button.
It will redirect to you on the new page.
Step 7: Set your credential here and click on update users.
Now, You will see a new message in green color. “Password reset successfully and you will be login Automatically.”
That means your setup is done.
Step 8: On this pop up click on right side below corner > error button to time and click on “Go to my document”
Your WorkDocs application is ready. Now you can start playing with this. you can able to store some documents and try all the available options.
Step 9: Upload your first document.
Step 10: Click on the upload files and select one or multiple files from your computer and click open.
Now you can see all your file in WorkDocs Dashboard
Step 11: Select one checkbox and click on the name of the file, it will automatically open in the relative application
In this example, we are opening a pdf file
Step 12: Click on the Action drop-down menu, and play with the options
Here, you have an option to download the file or make favorite, upload a new version, grant or reject the access on approval.
